BASICS
Marseille Airport is 18 miles (28 km) northwest of the center of the city of Marseille. The airport serves Aix-en-Provence, Berre, Toulon, and Vitrolles. Its French-only Web site has some information accessible to the non-French reading, nascent Francophile, including:
TAXI
Taxis are available 24 hours a day, with a surcharge at night. Fare to the center of the city is about 235 francs ($37); at night the cost is about 285 francs (46). The trip takes about 30 minutes.
BUS
There is a regular bus service to Gare St. Charles in the center of town. From Gare St. Charles it is a short taxi ride to most destinations in the city. Buses leave the terminal from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. every 20 minutes, and when flights arrive at other times. The fare is about 46 francs ($7), and the trip takes about 35 minutes.
AIR FRANCE BUS
Air France runs a mini-bus to Marseille five times a day, on weekdays. The bus leaves the airport at 5:30 A.M., 8:45 A.M., 11:15 A.M., 2:00 P.M., 5:45 P.M. The cost is approximately 48 francs ($8).
RENTAL CAR
Avis, Budget, Europcar, and Hertz have counters at the airport. These and other local firms all have offices at other places in the city, such as Avis, which has a counter in Gare St. Charles.
